Redner: | Nicolas Sisourat; Sorbonne Université |
Titel: | From Theory to Experiment: The Journey of Interatomic Coulombic Electron Capture |
Interatomic Coulombic Electron Capture (ICEC) is a phenomenon thatoccurs in specific environments, where a free electron is captured by aquantum system, transferring its excess energy to a distant atom ormolecule, resulting in ionization. In this presentation, I will reviewthe key theoretical models developed to study ICEC and highlight theimportant findings that have emerged from these studies. Additionally, Iwill discuss potential future directions for research in this field. |

Titel: | How rotation shapes the decay of diatomic carbon anions |
Since the 1990s is has been known that diatomic carbon anions, C2- , can undergo autodetachment with a lifetime of roughly 3ms when produced in a hot ion source. In a collaborative study employing both theoretical calculations and experimental data from the Cryogenic Storage Ring (CSR) in Heidelberg we were now able to identify the decay pathway of this mysterious signal. The talk will first discuss the C2- measurements carried out at the CSR and elsewhere. Afterwards, detailed theoretical considerations of the different ro-vibronic states and their decay mechanisms are presented. These show that rotational excitation has a profound impact on the lifetime of the various vibronic states of the system. The most severe example of this effect is visible in the lowest-lying electronic quartet state of the anion. |

Titel: | Unlocking the Secrets of the Southern Gamma-ray Sky: SWGO and Our Water Tank Adventure |
The Southern Wide-field Gamma-ray Observatory (SWGO), set to be the first of its kind in the South, will offer unprecedented studies of the Galactic center, extended emission, dark matter and more. The observatory will employ an array of Water Cherenkov detectors (WCDs) to record secondary particles from air showers generated by gamma-rays interacting with our atmosphere. But how should the unit detectors forming this observatory be designed to ensure SWGO's optimal contribution to the field? To address this question, we have built a 7m deep 10m diameter lake simulation tank at MPIK (You might have noticed it) Over the last years, several unit detectors were tested in this tank, culminating in a unique dual-layer design. This dual-layer unit detector in our tank is the first dual-layer prototype detector for SWGO that is currently in operation. In this talk, we will explore the role of high altitude wide-field observatories in gamma-ray astronomy. We will examine closely the process of building prototypes for SWGO, a next generation gamma-ray observatory that will be a crucial contribution to the field. |
